Bunny Chow Recipe and Printable (2024)

I have understandably had Rice Krispie Treats on the brain. Today I am going to share with you a yummy recipe I created during brainstorming for our Easter project. We didn’t chose it for the competition but it is no reject to be sure. Sweet, salty, chocolaty, and just plain yummy.
I envision having the kids leave it out for the Easter bunny much like you would leave out treats for Santa and the reindeer.

This treat took me about 10 minutes to make, so don’t be alarmed by all the writing. I really tried to be thorough with the instructions. Seriously, this is so easy to put together!

Bunny Chow
Ingredients
1.5 Tablespoons butter or margarine
2-2.5 cups marshmallows (I say, the goo-ier the better)
3 cups Kelloggs Rice Krispies
1 bag popped microwave popcorn
2 cups of pretzel twists or circles
6 ounces of M&MS in Easter colors or Chocolate Almond bark
Vanilla Almond Bark
Candy melts- optional
Wax paper

Instructions:

  • Make sure you have all your ingredients gathered. Line a large cookie sheet with wax paper.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the margarine over low heat.
  • Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted. Add any food coloring now.
  • Remove from heat and add the Rice Krispies. Stir until well combined.
  • With a greased utensil turn the Rice Krispies out onto your cookie sheet. No need to press it down firm, just spread it out. We want small clumps of Rice Krispies as the end results, so it doesn’t need to look pretty.
  • Sprinkle the M&M’s and pretzels over the top of the warm Rice Krispies.
  • Pop your microwave popcorn while the Rice Krispies are cooling.
  • Once the Rice Krispies have set up, break them up into small chunks. You can use clean hands or a knife if you are more comfortable.
  • Add your popcorn to the mix on your cookie sheet. Try to get everything mixed together as evenly as possible. My M&M’s just wanted to stay at the bottom of the pan.
  • Melt your almond bark or chocolate in the microwave according to the package instructions. Put the melted chocolate in a freezer storage bag and clip a tiny bit off of the corner. Drizzle the chocolate over the whole mixture.
  • Once the chocolate is all set-up you can serve it or store it in a freezer storage bag.

My Suggestions:

  • I drizzled purple candy melts and then let it set up. I mixed the whole tray up again and then drizzled again with white Almond bark for maximum chocolate coverage. 🙂
  • I actually put down the pretzels and M&MS before I made the rice krispies. It didn’t stick them together quite like I wanted, so I recommend doing the rice krispies first.
  • You could also omit the M&M’s and just use some melting chocolate too. I think the M&M’s are pretty though.

After extensive taste tastes a few nibbles, my perfect bite is rice krispies with the pretzel. Heavenly!

Now that you have made this delicious treat, how are you going to present it? With cute bag toppers of course! I love options, so I gave you a few. I also created that cute little bunny rabbit from scratch which is a pretty new thing for me. I’m so excited that he is immediately recognizable as a rabbit!
Here is option #1. Print it, cut it, fold it, and staple it. Easy peasy!
Download Option #1 HERE (PDF document, prints 2 to a page)

Option #2 is for those crafty over-achievers that everyone loves to hate. 😉 Cut around the bunny’s ears with an exacto knife so when you fold him in half, his ears pop-up. Make sure you cut the ears before you fold this one in half.

I am also offering them without any writing so if you would like to use some alternate text, you can put in whatever you want. You can save these images directly. For your reference they should print 4.5″ x 6.75″.
Please do not re-post these printables online without my permission. You are more than welcome to link up to my blog. Thank you very much!
I hope you enjoy. I would love to hear if you use them. If you have any issues with downloading the files, send me an email to cuteasafoxcreations@gmail.com and I will send you the files.
